RC Glossary, Powerband
Refers to the range of operating speeds under which the engine is able to operate efficiently. It is a wide or narrow range between the engine's idle and redline RPMs that produces the most useful power. It's the sweet spot where the vehicle performs best and runs the smoothest. For instance, there is very little power at idle, but more afterward when you enter the powerband.
The powerband curve is easily seen on a dyno chart, when the horsepower is at the highest.
There are lower-, mid-, and upper-range powerbands. One way racers change the powerband on a nitro vehicle is by changing pipes.
