Subject: Friend, MDMA as a treatment for PTSD?

Tyler Hooper speaks about an article on MDMA that he researched for Esprit de Corps Magazine.

The article explains the clinical study funded by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS).

The key issues covered is that MDMA is not ecstasy - it is a synthetic compound recognized to increase trust and empathy while minimizing fear and defensiveness.

Although the MDMA is not considered therapy on its own it does seem to encourage those suffering from PTSD to feel more at ease in sharing their experiences and working through their traumatic experiences with counselors.

Of the 780 individuals involved in the study serious adverse effects were rare (1 out of 780)

The MDMA trials are conducted in a structured and supportive environment that allows for psycho-therapeutic intervention over a intensive period of time. MDMA was administered during two, 8 hour sessions, 3-5 weeks apart.

At the 2 month follow-up, 83% of participants were no longer diagnosed with PTSD.
