How we fail ourselves by hiding from our conscious truth.
This video is focused on the concept of accepting our own PAIN as a route to healing after trauma.
Whether we have experienced something recently, in our childhood or through our family of origin (epigenetics), profound recovery requires a profound exploration, integration and acceptance of the emotional wounds we hold deeply within ourselves.
C.G. Jung said, "There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own Soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious."
I believe that Jung was instructing us to wake up from a slumber induced to avoid facing emotional pain when he referenced becoming enlightened. This waking up and facing oneself is a sure way to recognize the deepest source of our pain, and to separate our current fears, anger, frustration and general life struggles from those deeply embedded into our subconscious mind. When the past is constantly POURING INTO THE PRESENT, we can never liberate ourselves from our old wounds but rather continually react as if our old traumas are happening over and over again – even when we are experiencing a low level event.
So what will it really take for us to face our pain when the whole world is encouraging us to BUY THE HAPPINESS PROJECT INSTEAD? I am not suggesting that you should avoid happiness or weaving pleasure into your life. Absolutely do this but while you are doing this, also completely commit to facing your own demons and embracing the full truth about yourself. Rather than resist your own internal discomfort, leave space for it. Breathe into it and accept the wounds. This way you can actually come to terms with who you are and what has occurred to you or your family so you can use your trauma as a source of wisdom and power – which is your birthright!
TODAY's CHALLENGE
- Notice the emotional pain as it rises to the surface. Acknowledge that it is really part of you in a warm and accepting way. No blame, no shame.
- Notice any tendency to avoid, suppress or run to putting on the mask of pretense.
- Instead, embrace your truth by leaving space for it, witnessing it, breathing into it.
Understand that your trauma (whatever the source) has the potential to become your source of power and wisdom! Let there be space in your life for that to come to fruition.
