Although trauma can really knock us down in profound and unexpected ways, we don't want to be defined forever by unfortunate events. Ken Wilbur's "A Brief History of Everything" helps us to recognize the importance of our ongoing growth and evolution in life's journey. He is especially clear in his recognition of the necessity of spiritual growth as central to our human potential.
It seems that we all have some room to grow in this way, to evolve beyond basic needs and towards something higher and more core to the essence of who we really are. Spiritual teachers everywhere recognize traumatic events and they all seem to identify spiritual growth as a possible source of relief of these historical events. It is certainly worthy of reflection.
"It's at least plausible. And tell me: is that story, sung by mystics and sages the world over, any crazier than the scientific materialism story, which is that the entire sequence is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying absolutely nothing? Listen very carefully: just which of those two stories actually sounds totally insane?
I'll tell you what I think. I think the sages are the leading edge of the self-transcending drive that always goes beyond what went before. I think they embody the very drive of the Cosmos toward greater depth and expanding consciousness. I think they are riding the edge of a light beam racing toward a rendezvous with God." - Ken Wilbur
Challenge: See if you can explore this aspect of yourself and life. ASK yourself what is today's step for ME, that will help me grow further in my potential?
