Subject: Friend, Change your Mean Self-Talk!: Find Calm Challenge - Week 4 of 10

Thanks for joining us on week 4 of 10 week Find Calm journey.

In week 4, we challenge "Nasty or Mean" self-talk. One of the things that is most consistent in my trauma work is hearing people say things to themselves that they would never tolerate hearing from others. Or if they had to tolerate it, this would be something they would likely try to avoid or minimize whenever possible.

The challenge is to begin to truly notice when you use habitual negative self-talk (i.e., I am a terrible person, worthless, ugly, fat, stupid, etc.) Most of us recognize that we have to be aware of how we speak to others if we would like to retain and build our relationships. However, somehow we don't use the same responsibility in the negative things we say to ourselves.

The challenge for the next 7 days is to truly notice and challenge our internal negative self-talk. After all, does this really help in any way? Does it uplift us? Does it help us grow to our best potential? Will it ever help us resolve our trauma history?

The answer to these questions is a definitely NO! So challenge your negative self-talk and recognize it is likely based on old messages you received rather than meaningful inner talk. Try this one out for the next 7 days with us.

Take the time for to Change your Mean Self-Talk in this exercise for the whole week.

For most people after stress or trauma exposure the body is impacted significantly and we need to tend to this with compassion and skill.

Let's practice together. Please stay focused on your recovery and practice everyday.
Wishing you a gentle day.
