S.2.E.9 Ask Dr. Anna
I am going out on a limb here. When Big T trauma (PTSD) happens in our lives it can simply result in riveting and overwhelming change and impact in our lives. However, after trauma we might find ourselves feeling terrible after smaller daily events and this can undermine our recovery and our sense of comfort and growth in our life today.

When something minor occurs in daily life - do you find yourself feeling angry, overwhelmed, frustrated, confused to a degree that does not match the event? If you are answering yes to this question then it is time to learn how to face daily events in a new way with an attitude to help you grow after trauma.

Why is this happening to ME? ...

I know two people one who handle this question in a very different way.

1 person is constantly asking Why... Why... Why!... is this happening to me? ... she believes that people at work don't treat her properly, her friends aren't good enough to her and her family let's her down. She is always asking why and why and why ... coming from a very negative perspective without any insight to look more deeply from another perspective.

The other person I know is also asking Why... but her question of why comes from a place of deep reflection in which she says "I really want to know and understand why this is happening in my life right now... how can I learn from it ... how can I grow?"

Now, in both cases, we are NOT talking about Big T trauma events, but rather the simple daily events of life. Everyone of us experiences the good and bad in life. This is just how life unfolds. At times things unfold well and at other times we just don't get what we want. No one is different in this way.

This perspective of why this is happening to me ... can lead to a door opening, growth enhancing, life enhancing experience that can allow you to open new doors to help you grow after trauma.

RECAP
1. Do you ask, Why is this happening to you - from the perspective of wanting to see why the world is not treating you well ... vs. Why is this happening from the perspective of "how can I grow, learn and make new choices to change your life?"
2. Asking "How can I grow from this experience" can lead to profound growth after trauma.
