To get beat. This is how Liverpool losing yesterday and trading on Betfair is very similar…

I said it, which pains me as a Liverpool fan but they really did. In fact if I am honest deep down I knew they would get beat as well.

You see I have seen Liverpool this season try to compete on all four fronts, get many injuries but still beat teams, still perform with the top teams (think the second half against City!)...

But yesterday when they came out in the second half I knew they’d get beat because…

They were arrogant, they were overconfident in that second half it was almost like they wanted to show everybody they were superior to Man United - which everybody already knows so why did it matter?

What were they trying to prove??? & to whom?

What they should have done was kill the game off, do the basics right.

Watching that I saw:

  • Overconfidence

  • No basic game management

  • They were knackered

There were a lot of parallels yesterday between Liverpool and a lot of traders on Betfair, can you spot them too?

Let’s start with overconfidence, Liverpool were battering United in that second half but at no time did they do what they should (put the ball in the back of the net) which I have seen many traders do.

They need to do what they should and trade out, yet they get over confident and greedy wanting to win more. Which leads to losing the trade… like Liverpool.

No basic game or trade management. Sometimes in a game of football you have to just hold onto the ball, grow into the game and not make silly mistakes. The same for trading, some days you have to grow into your trading.

Give it time and not make silly mistakes, get the basics right…

Burnout. Which can happen when you’ve been playing or trading or working too much. I see this one A LOT in trading, people come rushing in and wanting to trade everything, some tell me they are even eating their tea on the way to turning the computer on…

Crazy, it only leads to one outcome… burnout!

The point of all this is that we can take lessons from this and apply it to our trading, a lot of the mistakes we make can be eradicated if we think about them in future.

Therefore I just want to leave you with this, just have a little check in with yourself before you trade to see how you are feeling, be honest and if you are feeling any of the things above if you can keep them in check then trade.

If not, don’t!
