Those words bring a feeling in your stomach that only losing money can replicate.
You navigate to the ‘In play’ tab on Betfair.
Looking, no screaming desperately for something to trade.
Trying to find something to bring you out of the bank busting hole you’ve just got yourself into.
Sounds familiar? It’s the story from many traders but also my own.
In 2006 I found this wonderful website called Betfair, I wasn’t even aware of betfair trading at the time. I just knew that I was terrible at picking horses to win, so an old man in the bookies told me about Betfair.
Where you could lay horses. I’ve got an obsessive personality, when I find out about something that interests me I go in, all in!
That was Betfair, the possibility of trading sports and making money excited me.
I tried every sport and strategy you could imagine.

I felt like a blue arse fly, buzzing around all over the place. I didn’t have a clue what I was really doing. I was talking to myself trying to make myself believe I knew what I was doing.
It was crazy. I felt the rush of excitement, then the stomach churning dread of no, not again Ryan.
Maybe this isn’t achievable?
BUT It all changed, it changed when I stopped trying to do everything. I focused on one sport. One Strategy.
This wasn’t sexy, it was just one simple LTD strategy.
I focused on:
Researching the trades
Reading the matches
Learning about value
Narrowing trades
Building a plan
When I did this everything changed, I was getting more and more green trades. Losing days turned to winning day, which lead to winning weeks, then winning months.
The best part?
It was easy to trade this way. I created a system to replicate how I built this strategy so I could create more winning strategies.
That worked too.
I put all of this knowledge into the Betfair Trading Community.
Along the way Martin and Adam joined me to form the powerhouse team of 3 we are today, but it’s important to know we weren’t always super traders.
