Merry Christmas Catholic Friends!
For a long time I personally did not tithe. I wasn’t Catholic and my wife dragged me to Church. Finally I felt called to become Catholic and I was on fire. I wanted to do everything according to the Catechism even if I struggled to understand it. Tithing was one of those areas. I tracked to the penny 10 percent before taxes. My wife told me I needed to have my heart in it and my response was “God said test me and I am testing him... so He needs to prove it."
So I did. And He continues to prove Himself. Even though there have been many bumps and challenges financially over the years, not once have I ever outdone God in generosity. Over time I have come to realize God blesses us to be blessers. We have certain responsibilities to Christ and His Church. I now embrace that role and try to discern where best it should go.
We traditionally give far more than 10% because God has asked for everything. I know you are asked for support so often you must sometimes feel overwhelmed. The Erickson household has taken a specific approach: We want to give and support locally where we have relationships with those being effected. Every charity we support directly impacts our local community and we have personal connections. Among those at the top of our list is Mass Impact.
I can promise you that Mass Impact has dramatically effected multiple young families here locally. I am one of those families. I was taught through Mass Impact the importance of being the spiritual leader of our home and how to teach, raise and expect our children to love and serve the Lord. We, the Erickson family, have put “Christ” first in our home. That is due in large part to learning and seeing how that is done through Mass Impact.
My ASK! We want to reach so many more. Movements such as this are fueled by monthly gifts. Our Goal is $120,000.00 a year for 3 years to enable us to be completely focused on mission. To reach this goal we are seeking families committing to a monthly amount for 36 months. For some of us, that is as much as $2000/month. For others, it is $5/month. Whatever the amount, we leave that between you and God.
