| | "LOVE" IS NOT LOVE.
Over recent years we've been told that "love" is whatever anyone wants it to mean. If you question otherwise you're intolerant. Or worse. So some incontrovertible truth: If words mean whatever anyone wants them to mean, they mean anything. Which is to say, everything. Which is to say, nothing. Terms such as "man," "woman," "marriage," "life" or "love" are absurd. As is any communication. Because it presupposes agreement on words used.
Truth is not something we can determine, but Something (Someone) in which we are determined. The former leads disunion, isolation and desolation; the latter, communion, intimacy and flourishing. In our cloud of confusion God took on flesh and blood in Jesus Christ, to reveal the nature of Love. Love is not something ushy gushy. Love has a shape. Definition. Like berms marking a highway. If we stay within these boundaries, we are safe. We are most fully ourselves. We get where we're made to go. If we disregard these lines, we get smashed.
Thus, the resounding message of this Sunday's Gospel: "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." (John 14:1-21)

GOSPEL | John 14:1-21
Jesus said to his disciples:
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,
because it neither sees nor knows him.
But you know him, because he remains with you,
and will be in you.
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
In a little while the world will no longer see me,
but you will see me, because I live and you will live.
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father
and you are in me and I in you.
Whoever has my commandments and observes them
is the one who loves me.
And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father,
and I will love him and reveal myself to him."
