He Grasped Her Hand This week in the Gospel the brothers gather together at Simon's mother-in-law's house who lays sick with a fever. She is each of us. And our world. With various sickness. Beyond the help of any power on this earth. They humbly come to Jesus. This powerful statement says it all: "He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them." (Mark 1:29-39)
We're particularly moved by this word grasp. With profound love for us, for you, Jesus is not casual. He reaches with intentionality, confidence, and authority. Constantly. Desiring to reach into each of our circumstances. To help us up. So our fevers will leave us. So we can wait on those around us. This is key: Jesus' reach is not sufficient. It requires our reach. His grip requires our own returned, firm grasp. With confidence, with every need, let's reach up and find the Hand of Christ. Let's return the grasp. Let's let Him lift us up. And let's wait upon the world.
