In my youth I struggled a lot with my self-worth. I always felt very alone and isolated. And a lot of times, angry or hurt. You might even say self-centered, as far as always being focused on my feelings. A variety of things caused that. But regardless, it was a struggle. By God's grace I was always drawn to Him, and I always looked to Him in desperate times. I went through most of my life with that struggle just having hard feelings of no value and no worth. Whatever I did was not good enough. Then a few years ago I got to that point where I hit rock bottom.
I felt like I just couldn’t take it anymore. Looking to God, I knew I had to find a way to fix this. I had to find a way to be okay with this. I was always praying, “God help me be okay with this.” And He would always come back with, “It's not okay. You don't have to be okay with what the world is dishing out on you!”
It made me realize that all I needed was from Him. He was what I was needing . Now I still struggle with it, but it’s different. I know the voice of the enemy compared to the Voice of God. I know the truth. It’s beautiful. It’s one of those things that was a curse but also a blessing. The season helped me recognize how important it is to focus on God. Whom I am in Him. My unsurpassed value in Him. Even when I don’t feel Him. Even in the darkness and desert. He is there. He is with me.
I feel like I have a little bit of a mission now in my life. I want to teach my own children, and everyone I encounter, their value and their worth.
So let me pronounce this right now: You are here for a very specific reason! There's nobody else in this world that is like you! There never was before and there will never be! You are so incredibly powerful and special. God created you to be you. As ridiculous or goofy or odd as you are, because that's how He’s made you! That’s what this world is all about. And at the same time, you're incredible and wonderful and amazing!

LORNA & STEVE FINDLEY have been married 21 years. They are parents to six children, ages 21 to six, with 13 little saints in heaven. They live in Huron and are parishioners at St. Peter Church. Steve is a manufacturing engineer at Precision Automotive Plastics and Lorna is a homemaker and stay-at-home mom.
