| | DOUBLE DELIGHT

With three kids at the time, our youngest getting close to 18 months old, we felt we were nearing the time when we would be ready to have another baby. We understand biology and NFP, but when that positive pregnancy test came up about two months before we were "planning" on it, there was a small moment of fear and questioning.
Ashamedly, I even remember doing a quick online search asking "what is the possibility of a false positive pregnancy test?" My head knew what those two pink lines meant, but my heart wasn't there yet.
Fast forward a few weeks to our first ultrasound. I had some more time to process and was at ease with the pregnancy. Bret and I were in the ultrasound room with the sonographer, and as she started scanning, she asked us if this was our first ultrasound. Her tone was a little hesitant, so I immediately thought she wasn't able to find a heartbeat, and I remember feeling such sadness at that moment. Once we told her that it was our first ultrasound, she then informed us that we were expecting twins.
Life from that moment on changed completely from what we were anticipating. That morning of our ultrasound, I was awakened to God's presence with us in that pregnancy. Throughout those nine months, I was consistently reminded that His timing is better than ours.
The scheduled C-section delivery of the twins was also a "God with us moment" as the delivery team was top-notch and they provided such a redeeming experience compared to our previous deliveries. Our sweet girls are such a gift (as are all of our kids!), and as often as we feel so undeserving of this life, we are grateful to be called to it.
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding." Prov. 3:5-6

They are parishioners at St Joan of Arc, Toledo and reside in Maumee, OH. Bret is the Senior Director of Discipleship and Family Life for the Diocese of Toledo. Ellen works part time as an RN for Heartbeat of Toledo, but is primarily a homeschooling and SAHM.
