Library Director's Message

Hello!

As I write this at 4:35 PM it’s already dark. I can see the warm glow of the lights on the front of our library building through my office window and the snowy owl on top of our winter tree that the Kensington Garden Club decorated. It’s been delightful to experience the summer, fall, and now (almost) winter through the eyes of our library. The displays change as beach reads make way for new non-fiction, cozy mysteries, literary fiction, and my personal favorite: cookbooks. Half Baked Harvest Cookbook by Tieghan Gerard helped get dinner on my table this Thanksgiving! Time and seasons change, but our commitment to excellent customer service remains the same.

Fine-ally Free!

We do our work with you in mind. This month, along with the usual seasonal book lists (learn about navigating family conversation here), we have more to share. We are happy to announce that Berlin Peck Memorial Library is fine-ally free! Yes, we have eliminated overdue fines for transactions at our library! That means that if you checkout at Berlin-Peck (including curbside and homebound delivery) you will not incur overdue fines. Replacement fees will still be collected for lost or damaged items. We strive to provide equal access to information, services, and opportunities for all. We believe fines create an economic barrier to that access. By eliminating fines, we can enrich the lives of everyone in the community. You can learn more about our fine-free policy on the website.

Tax Aide Will Be Back in 2022!

The AARP Tax-Aide Program will be available this upcoming tax season (February-April) at both the Berlin Senior Center and the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library. We will begin scheduling appointments in January, so please call after January 1 to make your appointment.

Thank you for your support this year and always. Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season however you choose to celebrate.

Warmly,

Kim McNally
