| God's Story and Our Healing excerpt from The Meaning of Sex: A New Christian Ethos
The truth is, we cannot heal alone. What is broken in dysfunctional relationships must be recovered in healthy relationships. In a recent healing seminar I facilitated, one of the participants asked me why God allows all of us to suffer so much with the wounds inflicted upon us in childhood and adolescence. “Surely a loving God would spare His children from so much suffering,” he said. My answer to this young man helped give him a greater perspective to his plight: “It’s not about you,” I said. “It’s about God working His power to heal you, so that you in turn, you can bless and help others who are suffering with your story of healing.” If our healing was simply for us to get on with our life and be happy, what purpose would that serve the Body of Christ? There is truly a greater redemptive message in our stories of healing that God is using in His master plan! Our healing can never be about ourselves. If it were, we would simply reach a point of nirvana and meditate all day in the glow of inner peace! As long as God has us on this earth, we are being used to help craft His beautiful plan. We can either fight Him, or be a part of the greatest story ever told! For this reason, we do not need to be obsessed with perfection, absolute sobriety, or living a sinless life, because we’ll never attain it. Does that mean we should not strive for holiness and avoid sin? Of course not, but that’s not the ultimate point. | | Arizona bill would ban 'conversion therapy' for LGBT youths
Arizona this year could become the 10th state to bar mental-health professionals from practicing "conversion therapy," making attempts to change a minor's sexual orientation or gender identity illegal.
"Each client’s goals are quite different. Some might come in and say, 'I believe I am gay, but this is not working for me and I'd like to find a way to live in congruence with my faith and not act on this,'" said Christopher Doyle, a therapist and coordinator for the National Task Force for Therapy Equality. The coalition works to defeat bans like the one being proposed in Arizona. "You also have clients who say, 'I started having feelings of same-sex attraction after I was abused, and I feel this problem is emotional versus sexual,'" Doyle said. "I have a problem with the term 'conversion therapy,' because it's more complex and nuanced than that. People have the right to make choices and abide by their values." Click here to read more. |

Virginia legislators have submitted a bill that would ban conversion therapy for minors in the state, as well as limit allowing state funds for conversion therapy.
The bill, which was authored by Sen.
