Fear of change.
It's A Thing.
And it gets in the way of our happiness.
That's because as a species, we tend to fear the unknown.
The human brain is designed to avoid new things that may threaten our survival.
When we face a new thing, or think of making a different choice to our usual one, our brain sends out all sorts of warnings—in the form of chemicals, hormones and proteins—to stop us from making big changes with unknown outcomes.
So this fear often prevents us from making decisions, even when we see they could be better for us.
But little steps, the brain handles those better.
So stop terrifying yourself by saying you have to make Big Changes in your life.
And stop discounting the little steps you are already taking.
Little steps are the best way to make big changes.
Little steps are the way to get genuinely, sustainably happy.
This is how:
Start to make your choices from a place of really listening to and respecting yourself.
Ask, “If I loved myself, what would I choose to do now?” all the time.
at the dinner table when the same old argument starts with your partner
when your boss talks to you a certain way
when you dress in the morning
when your partner or date wants to have sex
when someone asks you for something ...
Moment by moment, choice by choice, you build your life.
You’ve built your current life with the choices you’ve made at each decision point.
What future life are you building for yourself with your choices right now?
Making the same choices you’ve always made will perpetuate the life you have now.
Making new choices based on honoring your needs even better will create the life you’re dreaming of.
Pretty simple, right?
Little steps.
That's how you'll get there faster and with less fear.
If you loved yourself, what little step would you choose to take now?
