Subject: I can't do it!

I'm too scared.

I just can't!

"I have this thing I want to do," she tells me.

"I've been thinking about it for years!

If I loved myself, I'd do it.

But every time I take a step towards doing it, I freeze. I just can't."

"What scares you about it?" I want to know.

But even as I ask her, I can already guess what her answer might be.

Because I've heard this from people SO many times.

I've heard it from myself too!

It can be SO scary to follow your heart's desire.

Every danger signal in your body takes turns to shout at you

"I CAN'T do that! What will people say?"

"I'll look like an idiot!"

"I don't have the time."

"What if I fail?"

"How will I earn money?"

"What if nobody wants to buy it?"

"It's too hard."

"It's ok for other people but not for me."

"It's just a dream, not reality."

"I'm not talented enough / brave enough / clever enough..."

"I'll be exposed. People will SEE me."

"It's too vulnerable to put myself out there like that."

"I can't step out of my role. People depend on me to stay here."

"I have too many responsibilities."

"I can't be so selfish."

"There are people starving and suffering! I can't just ignore all that and do what I like."

"Life isn't just all about me, you know!"

So many reasons we don't let ourselves live the life we long for.

You dream of:

Just saying no...

Sitting down and relaxing...

Letting yourself cry and feel your feelings...

Expressing yourself honestly...

Running courses...

Writing a book...

Travelling...

Not rescuing everyone...

Eating well and exercising...

Going on a retreat...

Getting healthy...

Leaving the relationship...

Changing jobs...

Dating again...

But it's scary. So you don't.

And here's the kicker:

At the end of your life...

When you look back on it...

Will you be happy that you didn't do it?

Will you be at peace with yourself that you didn't take the chance, that you didn't try it, that you didn't say that thing?

Or will you have regret?

What is truly worse in the long run?

Doing the scary thing, or NOT doing it?

Sometimes, loving yourself means pushing yourself to do the scary thing.
