Subject: Baseball and Self-Acceptance

A funny connection

Loving yourself even applies to baseball!

Did you know baseball teams win more games when the players accept themselves more?

I watched the movie Moneyball the other day.

It’s really well made – and it stars Brad Pitt. Need I say more…?

Also, I learned a lot.

I learned that in the past, baseball players were chosen because of the way they looked.

If they played very well, were popular with the crowd and they looked good they made it to the big leagues.

If they looked a little odd, played a little quirky, they could score a lot of runs for their team but still not be chosen for the big teams.

This meant that the less popular and more unusual players were often wildly undervalued.

But then someone created a system that looked at a player’s statistics instead of their popularity and they tried to create a team that way.

At first it didn’t work...

It was just a bunch of misfits thrown together...

Until they did the most important thing any supportive system can do.

They encouraged each player to stop trying to play by other people’s rules and expectations and to start being even MORE of who he really was.

They taught him how to work WITH his own quirks instead of against them.

Because his quirks are what made him special.

His own unique style is what gave him the edge.

Even if the way he played didn’t look pretty or conventional, it was what gave him his power.

And guess what?

BOOM!

Success.

So?

What are your quirks?

How do you play life in a way that makes you unique but maybe isn’t so conventional or pretty?

What are you trying to hide or change about yourself?

And what if working WITH that and celebrating it might actually be the very thing that will lead to your success?

If you loved yourself BECAUSE of your quirks, how would you treat yourself now?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this?
