Subject: Are you relevant in the world?

Do your needs matter?

Are you relevant in the world?

She asked me a most interesting question.

“How would a Perfect Person self-care? What would that look like?”

She wanted actual examples she might be able to follow and her question made me realise that self-care is often something that’s not visible to others.

I mean, when we think of self-care, we sort of imagine bubble baths and long walks on the beach… self-romance.

That’s definitely a delicious part of it, but it’s not what really counts...

Because we all know that romantic dates can go horribly wrong.

Who the date is with and what their intentions are count for EVERYTHING, right?

You can feel more romance sitting with someone lovely on a dusty street corner than having a candlelit dinner at a beautiful restaurant with someone who is disconnected...

So, it’s not how things look from the outside that matter.

It’s the quality of the engagement.

So how would Mr or Ms Perfect Person self-care then?

“Well”, I said, “the first thing is that she’d wake up in the morning and before even opening her eyes she would know that what she felt and what she desired was going to be taken seriously today. By her. She would be connected to herself.”

And then we realised that it boils down to whether or not you see yourself as relevant in your life and in the world.

Because when you decide someone is relevant, you take their comments and their needs seriously.

You take actions to meet their needs.

But if you decide someone is not relevant, then you dismiss them and their needs.

So, my question to you today is, how relevant are you in your life?

Have you decided that your needs are relevant and important or do you feel they are less important than other people’s?

Do you brush yourself aside?

Do you diminish or apologise for your hopes and dreams?

Or do you take them as seriously as if someone you admire was expressing them?

If you loved yourself – if you really, truly believed you are precious and important and worthy and relevant in the world - how would you treat yourself now?

I’d love to hear your thoughts about this.
