Subject: The Fish in Water is not ThirstyUntitled message

GREETINGS! Today’s share is an email share from successful entrepreneur, Mike Dillard, who has struggled for the past three years with health issues, often at death’s door. The results of this has been a tremendous awakening and transformation.

"Fish are the last to discover water..."

What does it mean?

Well, simply put, each of us are completely unaware of our situations in life and the choices we make, until an outside force knocks our blinders off either intentionally, or accidentally.

A fish living deep below the waves has no idea that water exists until it’s caught by an outside force and pulled to the surface, at which point it says to itself, "holy-sh*t! I’ve been living in water this entire time and had no idea!"

If that event had never happened, the fish would have lived its life completely unaware of what is insanely obvious to the rest of us because we’re an outside observer.

Well you and I are no different...

We will go through our entire lives completely unaware of who we are, who we could be, and our real motivations for everything we do, unless an outside event or another person gives us the opportunity to see ourselves from a new perspective.

Why does self-awareness require an outside influence?

Because self-awareness can be scary. It’s a threat to the ego and the identity it’s spent your entire life building.

If you’re still alive and reading this, then your ego has been doing its job successfully… It’s kept you alive.

Removing that ego, or transforming it could lead to an unknown outcome, which it would view as a potential threat to your survival.

That’s why change is literally scary to most people.

If you’ve ever watched the animated movie, "The Croods", you know what I’m talking about. [It's only received 76,430 5-stars].

It’s an incredible [animated] film about a family of neanderthals led by a father named Grug.

Grug’s identity is that of the protector and provider, and he will do anything and everything to stick to that identity.

"Never not be afraid!" Is his family motto because anything new or unknown will certainly wipe them out.

So he keeps his family in the same cave, living by the same routine and habits for their entire lives, because that’s all he knows...

That is, until one day a volcanic eruption forces him to make a decision… Run for your life, or die...

That event leads to an uncomfortable new level of awareness and transformation which is beyond challenging for Grug, but that ultimately leads him and his family from a life of fear and scarcity, to one of discovery, fulfillment, and abundance.

People who are truly committed to growth and transformation will even seek out an ego death experience.

Why in the world would someone want to go through an ego death?

Because it frees them from their old stories and identities and allows them to create a new one.

What happens after these experiences is incredible...

You realize that you're still alive, and that you are not your ego.

And you come to understand that your ego is just a manufactured illusion like a costume.

Yes, I could wear my costume and the qualities it comes with, but they weren’t a permanent part of me. They could be accepted, rejected, or re-written.

They're simply part of an identity, and identities are the result of the stories we tell ourselves and what we choose to believe.

Right now at this very moment, I could choose to take on the identity of a monk.

I could pack a bag, leave my family behind, fly to Tibet, and create a new identity.

That’s obviously an extreme example, but it is possible none-the-less.

But what’s most important to know, is that you can take the parts of your identity that aren’t serving you, and change them.

MANY people around the world have taken on the identity of a "victim".

Things happen TO them, and their life consists of managing these events in a constant reactionary pattern.

Some people have been overweight for years, and they’ve taken on the identity of someone who will always be overweight because, "diets don’t work for them."

Others have taken on the identity of the struggling entrepreneur who can never figure out how to build a successful business.

Our brains turn experiences into evidence, and enough experiences and evidence eventually turns into an identity, especially as they’re reinforced through the words you think and say…

When you say things like...

"I’ll never be able to afford ____"

Or, "I’m not good with ____"

Those statements become self-fulfilling beliefs, which actually create the result you have been trying to avoid.

If you're constantly afraid of being broke, that means you're focusing your brain on being broke, and whatever you focus on, is what you're going to get more of.

So what’s the point of all this?

The point is to help you become aware that…

You are who you define yourself to be, and you can consciously change that definition at any time.

You have the power and ability to redefine who you are, how you act, and what your life looks like at any moment.

Lasting transformation requires more than reading a book."

You have to literally rewire your brain and neuro-chemistry for something to stick.

And you can.

If you choose to.

The day is the way.
