Subject: Swap It!

Yesterday’s email was about trading irritations for empowering thoughts and actions.

As a strategic intervention coach, I observed that there were those who were invested in their story… in living the past over and over and over again in their thoughts and feelings. Through the telling and retelling they were living and reliving the past in the present.

And, there were those who were truly ready to let it go.

I used to lament for those stuck in the story, for it hurt to see them continue to suffer… to bang their heads on the wall when if they would but take two side-steps, they’d be at a doorway to their next level of growth. To freedom from the chains that bound them to the pain of the past.

Now, I understand that when we’re stuck in those loops, it’s because we still need to learn the lesson that is there for us. Once we do… once we decide that we have, we can move on.

But we each have to get to that place of pain or crisis and subsequent decision, where reckoning occurs and we face the fire, walk the coals, and land on the other side, renewed.

One of the steps in the process is to simply begin to swap out negatives for positives… disempowered thoughts and actions for empowered ones.

PROMPT IDEAS:

Create whatever comes to mind in your preferred medium around any or all of these:

  • Swap an irritating thought for a positive one.

  • Make a list of regular irritants in one column and create an uplifting positive version on a parallel column. E.g., when ______ happens, I will ______.

Because you can.

Here are a few examples shared before, but it may help to you to generate your own ideas, should you need a jumpstart.
