PART 2 - The Changing Landscape for Creators

Artificial Intelligence (AI) - The Inevitable Future

But FIRST… HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY❣️

To my dear group of friends on this Valentine's Day,

I want to express my love in a special way.

You all bring joy and light into my life,

And make even the toughest days seem bright.

We've shared laughter and tears, triumphs and falls,

And through it all, we've stood strong and tall.

Each one of you has a heart of gold,

And I'm grateful to have you in my fold.

So let's celebrate this day of love,

With friendship that soars high above.

For though we're not each other's sweethearts,

Our bond is strong through creation and art.

Here's to us, my beloved friends,

May our love and friendship never end.

Happy Valentine's Day to each and every one,

You're all special and second to none!

AI WRITTEN CONTENT:

As a writer, editor and owner of a media publishing company with websites, I’ve tested the new AI writing tool, ChatGPT.

Unlike earlier AI, these more advanced iterations write better than our average skilled paid writers!! As editor, I still need to fact check and edit, but as for how it’s crafted, the quality is surprisingly good, and I’ve seen nothing to indicate that it wasn’t written by the average human writer.

That means that I can get articles written for free… that I can then edit… and publish.

Naturally, for writers, this could be a great concern as it’s probable that many are being replaced by AI.

For online publishers, (as with magazines before websites) for most any info website that you read, the content is written by paid writers. In our case, we (I) write most of it because we’re not yet big enough to hire more paid writers, plus writing is something I enjoy anyway.

However, we do currently have one paid writer that we use for some articles. At the lower price range that we’re able to pay as yet, a lot of editing is still needed to embellish it to our standard for articles.

Now, with this advancing AI, I can get the base article written for free (currently), and then edit as needed, and often with less editing needed than with our regular paid writer. While this seems “wrong” at first, in reality, it isn’t ethically different in approach than hiring a writer.

As you may (or may not) know, most writers for most websites are paid writers and not experts on the topic. This means they tend to curate and rewrite info from other websites.

So if you’ve noticed a lot of the same info out there, including the same wrong info perpetuated, that’s why. We are trying to do it differently, (publish fewer articles that are well researched, footnoted and edited).

However, that isn’t the most lucrative model, for it takes a lot of time creating in-depth articles versus rapid content proliferation, and especially to validate the content with research, rather than promulgate potentially erroneous information.

As a fellow creator… I’d rather be able to pay another creator, (rather than indirectly, a creative company). But there again… it’s still actually a similar thing. In other words…

ALARM OR ADVENTURE?

Naturally, as with all new advancements, there is alarm amongst creators in all industries now. For some, the phenomenal abilities being demonstrated with the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can be disconcerting, intimidating and even a bit scary.

Some are now readily available to anyone anywhere at any time, and much of it FOR FREE.

For others, it becomes a new tool for discovering new avenues of creation. The creative tree of life has many branches.

When I first heard about and witnessed some of these tools, my first thought was the plight of creators. I.e, it might have taken me an hour to write something like the poem above. The ChatGPT tool wrote it in seconds. I changed only one letter and three words.

But if I didn’t like it at all, I could regenerate other renditions, or change my prompt to change the slant it was taking.

There are similar tools for artistic creations. And there are even 3D printers that take it beyond the digital screen.

So I’m regularly pondering, what will be the role for creators in this new world of rapid content creation?

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON AI?

  • Do you have concerns?

  • Are you more intrigued and excited or reticent?

  • Have you experimented with any AI tools, and if so, what was your experience

Transformation through creation.
