Subject: Out of Brokenness

This is a beautiful story and message… perhaps you’re familiar with it?

HEPHAESTUS

The Greek God of creativity, Hephaestus rules over the forge, creating both beautiful jewelry and powerful weapons.

Hephaestus is the only Olympian of the 12 Greek Gods who is not physically perfect, and yet he does not allow his infirmity to stop him from making art. Instead, he uses it to transform.

The Message of Hephaestus

Hephaestus is lame from injuries inflicted by his own family. Yet instead of wallowing in pain and pity, he creates both beauty, as symbolized by jewelry, and power, as symbolized by beautifully crafted weapons.

Hephaestus appears to channel his brokenness into the clever creation and cultivation of his craft. He doesn’t let his imperfections prevent him from birthing boldness and beauty in the world.

And neither should we. This is the artist’s “heroes journey”. To create something from nothing… and good from bad.

“Hephaestus shows us that our strongest and best work can grow out of that very imperfection, that our very brokenness is one of the strongest tools available to us. Out of that brokenness the most beautiful art can grow.“
~Allison Stieger, mythologist, transformational consultant
