Right now, these are Print-On-Demand (POD) products, which means that they’re more expensive, and they generally take longer to reach the customer (~5-10 business days vs an average of 3 days if we stocked these in our Amazon store, and the apparel can take longer).
In round numbers, they retail for $15.95 plus shipping. Our cost is $10.95. After product purchases for promotional photoshoots, marketing and ads (else products tend not to sell), the net profit is basically zero at this point.
However, our goal with our merchandise is to identify the best sellers over time, and then manufacture those in bulk so the cost is reduced. Even then, profitability is challenging because our goal is to source from US businesses rather than manufacture in China, as most product sellers do.
In short, most product sellers manufacture in China because it’s super cheap compared to US products. Yet, that is a racket with a whole other set of problems. We may include that in a future Coffee Break Podcasts if folks are interested in learning more about the ecom industry.
Meanwhile, if you create art, you can certainly enjoy seeing your own creations on a plethora of POD options, and they make great gifts.
