Gardening Overwhelm...? (Or any other kind..?)

This is the season when most gardeners are seeing and experiencing tremendous abundance in harvests. While incredibly gratifying and satisfying, the mid and late summer busy-ness can also leave us feeling overwhelmed

Everywhere we look there’s so much to do. Bounties to harvest, clean, process and preserve.

With abundance comes busy-ness. Thus, the gardening we longed for in winter, that sprung into action in spring and summer, can seem like chaos amidst the abundance of harvests, weeds, and pests. It's especially challenging when we're still carrying on with work and family obligations as usual.

OLD TIMERS... YEARS OF WISDOM

Now the old-timers amongst us have this down like a well-oiled machine, cranking away at the chopping, cooking, canning, drying, pickling and preserving. Hats off to you, with admiration for all your years of experience and knowledge converted to wisdom. And gratitude to those of you who share that with others.

Wisdom from our elders is a valuable and much needed stabilizing salve in a youthful world gone off kilter.

So we’re grateful for simpler ways that bring us back to the serenity, simplicity and nurture of nature, even when it can seem like chaos with all there is to do.

IF YOU ARE FEELING OVERWHELMED…

Be grateful for the abundance and consider that you can’t do it all, and that’s okay. Some of it may have to be let go, or else take a back burner to higher priorities.

Meanwhile, practically everyone is experiencing greater stress these days given all the conflict and uncertainty in the world.

So we’re sharing some favorite herbs for stress relief, and grateful for the many wonderful benefits that so many plants provide.

Chances are you’re already growing some of them.

BEST HERBS FOR STRESS RELIEF

If your favorite/s herb for stress relief is not on this list, please send it to us with any comments about how it’s helped you. You’re welcome to include photos as well if you have them to share.

It’s hard to choose a favorite, but one of ours is passion flower.

RECIPES THIS WEEK:

These are the only updates we had time to do:

Carrot Curry Soup - Especially yummy and good hot or cold

Beet Cabbage Carrot Coleslaw - so pretty!

Egg Bake with Broccoli - one of our favorite staple breakfasts

The Best 3 Ingredient Frozen Yogurt - this one is mango but so far we’ve made a batch each of mango, strawberries, blackberries and nectarine. Super simple, delicious and healthy!

That’s all for now… take care and take it easy when you need to. When we can’t do it all, we do what we can!

Gratefully,

Coleman and LeAura Alderson
