What is the difference between joy and happiness?
Happiness is an emotion which comes and goes. It can be caused by a mix of internal and external sources. If we’re experiencing loss, sadness, anger, or any other negative emotion, we don’t feel happy.
Joy, is a lasting state of being.
Much like gratitude, when we’re in a state of joy, we have a sense of peace regardless of what may be happening around us. We can still experience each emotion, positive or negative, without a shift in our joy state.
Interesting to contemplate, isn’t it? That we can experience volatile—and even negative emotions—without being internally disrupted, when we achieve a pervasive and permeating state of joy.
