This month we want to remember Pastor Ken Pierpont, who entered the presence of our Lord and Savior on February 19, 2024. We are thankful for the years he served on our staff, and his messages at our conferences have encouraged and blessed many people over the years. His deep love for the Lord and for people came through in his enthusiastic preaching and captivating storytelling.

In his message The Firefly Principle, Pastor Pierpont shares eight key points of what a truly fulfilled life looks like. Some of those points deal with hard questions, such as, What do you do when bad things happen? What does the Bible say about loving those who are difficult to be around? One key point he presents is the “Firefly Principle”—that light shines brightest in the greatest darkness—and how it can bring encouragement to us as Christians.

Despise Not Little Ones

“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”

MATTHEW 18:10

In Matthew 18:10, Jesus specifically commands us as believers to not despise “little ones.” But who are little ones? This could include both little children as well as those who are young in the Christian life. In either case, we are to value them as God values them, despite their immaturity.

But how do we learn to value them the way God does? The key to answering this question is found in learning to view little ones as God views them. It is only when we receive God’s heart on this matter that our attitudes and actions will begin to change.
