MESSAGE OF THE MONTH

First of All, Prayer

Caleb Reed

Meals begin with prayer, events open in prayer, and church services incorporate prayer. Christians often pray, asking God to bless their work. Church prayer meetings usually focus on requests for intercession, and often those requests are added to a growing list of needs. While those are important aspects of prayer, what did the Apostle Paul mean when he instructed young Pastor Timothy to pray “first of all”?

Caleb Reed explains the central place that prayer should take in our lives. Referencing I Timothy 2:1, he asks various questions to help listeners examine their hearts and motives in prayer. Using stories from his own life and historical examples, he illustrates the importance of placing prayer “first” in our lives, even when it is difficult to do so.

COMMAND OF CHRIST

Honor Your Parents

“For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.”

MATTHEW 15:4

Honor is not just an outward action; it is something generated in a heart that is humble before God. Honoring our parents will flow from a heart that is honoring God. In this episode, Nate and Gabe will share important truths from the Word of God on this often overlooked command. As we humble ourselves before God and choose to give honor to our parents, we will see His blessing on our lives.

In a day where it is culturally acceptable to dishonor parents and those in authority, it is so important for us to be reminded of the command to Honor Your Parents. Sadly, this attitude of dishonor is something that has been disregarded and excused even by Christians. Honoring those over us is something very close to the heart of God. As you listen, be exhorted to turn your ear away from what is culturally “normal” and give weight to what the Word of God says about this area.
