There is no doubt that there is power in prayer! God moves in mighty ways when we pray. But do we really live like we believe that? Do we truly understand the emphasis in His Word that God places on the importance of prayer?

In this profound message, Gabriel Cleator examines what God desires from us when we pray. In John 15:5, Jesus said, “without me ye can do nothing.” Prayer is a practical acknowledgment of our total dependence on the Lord in everything. Through prayer, we live in the reality that we desperately need the presence of God in every part of our lives. When life feels out of control, instead of worrying and being anxious, God calls us to turn to Him in earnest, believing prayer.

Bring In the Poor

“Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: and thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.”

LUKE 14:12–14

We all have a tendency to exalt ourselves—to seek the recognition and attention of other people. As we dig into the context of Bring In The Poor, we will see that Jesus cuts right to the heart and exposes this pride in all of us. God’s desire is that we would humble ourselves before Him, that we would be willing to take the “low place” before people, and that we would be content to live for His approval alone.

Do you desire to have God’s heart for the needy in your life? Do you want to see people the way that He sees them? God is no respecter of persons—His heart is the same for all people! We need to recognize that the ground is level at the foot of the cross—the reality is that we are all poor and needy! When we see God’s heart of love for us, we are then able to be a channel of that love and kindness to others.
