MESSAGE OF THE MONTH

A Glimpse of Glory in Isaiah

John Huffman

When Isaiah had the profound experience of seeing God’s glory, it completely transformed the way he related to God and the way he viewed himself. As Isaiah saw the Lord seated on His throne, all the earthly turmoil faded away. This vision brought him to a place of humility and repentance, declaring himself “undone” in the presence of divine holiness.

In the same way, when we see God’s glory, it provides a completely new perspective on life, influencing how we view ourselves and our circumstances. John Huffman calls us to reflect God’s glory in our lives, so we can be clean vessels ready to serve. Seeing God in His all of His majesty causes us to look away from earthly distractions, to look up to Him, to look inward in humility, and to look outward to serve others.

COMMAND OF CHRIST

Be a Servant

“. . . whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

MATTHEW 20:27–28

The more we look at how God’s Kingdom works, the more we will see that His ways are actually opposite man’s ways! Man’s way of leadership is seeking to be served. It involves vying for position and recognition. God’s way of leadership is that we seek to serve and put others’ needs above our own. This may be shocking to some, but Jesus not only commanded this, He lived it!

Whether healing the sick, opening the eyes of the blind, or washing the feet of His disciples who would later forsake Him, no one ever served with more love and care for others than Jesus. In fact, we see Jesus’ servanthood pictured most clearly by His death on the cross. In John 15:13, Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

As we dig into the command Be a Servant, it is key that we don’t look to ourselves to fulfill it. When we try to serve in our own strength and ability, we will end up overextended and worn out. But as we rely on Christ, as we take our gaze off ourselves and place it on Him, we will experience His divine enablement to serve in a way we never could on our own.
