FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Islamic Association of North Texas (IANT) issues a statement regarding the shooting at the Tree of Life Congregation this past Saturday. DALLAS (Oct. 29, 2018) – Our organization, in the strongest of terms, condemns the senseless shooting at the Tree of Life Congregation this past Saturday. Any house of worship is a sacred and safe space and must be treated as such, regardless of one’s faith or creed. The acts of violence perpetrated against the worshippers at the Tree of Life constitute not only a tragic and horrific loss of life, but also the desecration of a space that is meant to be welcoming, cherished and respected.
While our congregation aches whenever we hear of any violence perpetrated against innocent lives, this incident hits particularly close to home. An attack on any house of worship is an attack on all houses of worship. IANT is humbled to hold powerful ties with many synagogues in Dallas, and to see our fellow worshippers attacked due to their faith renders us speechless. Instead, we join in prayer with our Jewish brothers and sisters, praying for those who passed away and those who survived; we affirm our solidarity with and commitment to one another. Our interfaith relationships run strong at both an organizational and an individual level, and we will continue to foster these bonds.
Established in 1969, the Islamic Association of North Texas is a not-for-profit religious organization dedicated to providing services to the more than 150, 000 Muslims and other community members living in the North Texas region, and promoting interfaith dialogue with neighboring communities.
