Subject: Urgent Request for Help from Samaritan's Purse

Greetings to our friends and alumni:

I’ll cut to the chase here with a special and somewhat urgent request. As you know, we have had a great partnership with Samaritan’s Purse over the years, and our opportunities to deploy with them have been varied and meaningful. They provide meals, housing, and tools for us while we are on deployment, making our relationship with them a no brainer. But more than that, the greatest joy I have working with them is the platform they give us to carry the Gospel to the homeowners we serve.

Yesterday a member of their staff reached out to me for help. As you know, the midwest and south has experienced an onslaught of tornadoes and flooding in a short period of time that I don’t believe I’ve ever witnessed in my years at ALERT. Samaritan’s Purse is deployed to multiple locations, and has two critical needs that they have asked us to consider:

  • Volunteer turnout has been modest at best, and in some places meager. The northern deployments (Iowa and Nebraska) went relatively well in the cooler temperatures, but it is the deployments to Texas, Oklahoma, and now Arkansas that have been lacking in help.

  • The greatest need at the moment is one they asked me to reach out to ALERT guys about. They are in desperate need of individuals like yourself that could actually lead these volunteer teams on worksites. I’m guessing a considerable amount of the work is related to chain saws (along with some tarping and cleaning up other debris), and they are aware that many of our guys have the skill set to handle such jobs. The drive and determination they see in you is certainly an important factor as well.

Many of their present team leaders (most of them retired seniors) have been heavily tasked in all these deployments, and are frankly worn out. We need some young bucks and youthful blood! I know many, if not most, of you have jobs or responsibilities that may exclude you from this work. But if you could break away for a week or more, you’d be a huge blessing to not only SP, but to the homeowners in desperate situations—many who need to hear the gospel.

If you have questions regarding exactly what it looks like to be a team lead, please call me anytime at 903-714-3481. If you’d like to offer your services or find out more details from SP directly, send them an email immediately at slt@samaritan.org. Presently they are planning to open up additional sites in Oklahoma and Bentonville, AR, in addition to their other active sites, and have urgent needs for leadership. Praying you guys will consider this.
