Hello,
As the first quarter of 2023 draws to a close, something that has been weighing on my mind is the responsibility that I, and all the staff at ALERT, have to steward our relationships well. Because of the positions that we are in here, we have an outsized influence in the guys’ lives. A carelessly unkind word from an officer can deeply wound a guy in training. A snap judgement made without all the facts can bring an incredible amount of frustration and hurt. An incompletely taught theological concept can push the men to be out of balance spiritually, or distort the character of God.
At the same time, we also have a great opportunity to make a difference through that same influence. It is such a blessing to have the chance to be the tool that God uses to bring truth, the Gospel, or His character to intersect with a life impacted by the effects of sin. I love the daily opportunity that ALERT provides to work with, and invest in, men who want to grow and who are hungry for a deeper relationship with God. Pray that we would be careful and wise as we live alongside the men, that we would teach and counsel accurately and lovingly, and that we would not miss any opportunities to encourage, challenge, or exhort the men in training. | I have two updates that I wanted to share with you. The first is that our Spring Quarter student numbers are considerably above recent average, which is a big answer to prayer. Next quarter we will have guys in Aviation, Basic Training Cadre, Basic Training, our newly relaunched Construction class, Diving, EMT, and Missions. We are really excited to see the increased numbers, and are looking forward to a large graduation in June. Also, the Basic Training application deadline for Unit 68 is not until March 17, so pray that we keep getting more applications for Basic between now and then. Second, we are making major progress on the website, and I can finally share the dev site with you all. The only aspect ready for final review at this point is the text; we still have a lot of placeholder graphics and photos, and have not enabled various forms or other functionality yet. There are also a couple of the bigger pages that are scheduled to be built out next week or the week after, so there are still some empty pages (including the home page). Finally, we have not made the site mobile friendly yet, so it will not work well on a cell phone or tablet. The best way to view the website is on a rectangular computer monitor; we are working on all the other versions of the site but that functionality has not been applied yet. All that to say, if you would be interested in reviewing the text, I would love your feedback and suggestions. Lord willing, the website will go live the weekend of April 1-2. | Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support. We are really thankful for each one of you. I feel like I say that every month, but it is true. Let us know if we can be praying for you, and if you are ever in the area, please stop in and say hello! Posteritatis commodis servientes, |
