Why do ALERT men shout “Strong to serve, sir!” when they are
called to attention? In Matthew 20, Jesus called his disciples
to follow his example, and serve those around them. “The Son of Man came not to
be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” Matt 20:28
ESV. Developing a servant’s heart is part of becoming like Jesus. When we go on
deployment, we get to serve hurting, needy people and show them the love of
Christ in a tangible way. This often brings the opportunity to share the
gospel, and many times we have had the privilege of seeing someone turn to
Christ as their Savior. Service is one way we can each be like Christ and faithfully
answer His call to “make disciples of all nations.”
