Throughout ALERT training, we are always pushing the guys to
be eager and ready to serve. But why do we emphasize service so much? To answer
that question we must begin by looking at our example, Jesus Christ, who said
that He "came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a
ransom for many" Mark 10:45b ESV.
What better way do we have of testifying about our Lord, and
the authenticity of our obedience to Him, than to walk as he walked? And what
better way is there to combat the self-focus and pride in our hearts than step
in and offer to help those around us in their time of need? Especially in this Christmas season, may we all be ready to serve those that God places in our paths.
