“Camaraderie” is not a word that is commonly used today, but it aptly describes both the experience of most of our guys here at ALERT, and also an impact of the bonds that we share with our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Cambridge English Dictionary defines camaraderie as “a feeling of friendliness toward people that you work or share an experience with.” Here at ALERT, the friendships that the men in training build are a result of weeks or months of shared experiences, struggles, hardships, and triumphs.
But even deeper, that camaraderie is rooted in our shared union with Christ through the Gospel. Paul’s epistles are full of that same sense of camaraderie toward the various churches and individuals he was writing to. We want our men to be sharpened by their fellow students and leadership while they are here, and then take that Gospel camaraderie and discipleship and continue to live it out in their churches and communities at home. |
