Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | October 2024

October 31, 2024

Dear Alumni,

We are less than four weeks till the end of the semester here at ALERT, and the time just continues to fly by. Unit 71 successfully completed their 24-Hour Endurance Hike last week, and we had a great showing on the hike from the alumni ranks. We had 12 guys show up to participate in some way, including four alumni fathers out on the trail completing some or all of the hike with the unit.

All together we had Units 1, 3, 10, 13, 14, 39, 56, 57, 61, 65, and 68 represented, either hiking or functioning in logistical support roles for the hike. It was a great time to hear stories, get to know guys who haven't been back in over 25 years, and spend time making new ALERT man memories. The hike turned into a mini reunion, as one guy called it.

It's always great to have the "old guard" around for events and training trips. Please let us know if you'd like to try and be involved in any ALERT training events in the future, and we can send you the details. Whether that's coming in to share a Bible study, teach a day of class, get some continuing education, go on a hike with Basic Training, or hang out with the men, we'd love to have you guys (young or old) around.

Speaking of having you all around, our next Reunion is coming up February 7-9, 2025, so mark your calendars and bring your friends and family. We hope to see you there!

In more sober news, we have also lost two more of our brothers this fall. On September 8, Thomas Exstrum (Unit 9) passed away from serious injuries sustained in an accidental fall. And then on September 24, Daniel Moulton (Unit 17), son of Lt. Col. Russell and Debbie Moulton passed away due to medical complications while receiving treatment for some health issues. Please be in prayer for both families as they grieve these losses. We will be adding their names to the Alumni Memorial Wall in a ceremony during next year's reunion to remember and celebrate their lives.

Please keep us in your prayers as we wrap up these last four weeks of training. Pray that we will end the year well in all areas. Pray for safety, pray for financial support, pray for wisdom, and clarity for my staff and myself. But most importantly, as we advance Unit 71 and graduate Unit 70, pray that the men in training would leave here forged by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Forge on!
