Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | July 2024

July 19, 2024

Dear Alumni,

Well, I finally did it. After years of talking about it, I finally made the long journey up to the Northwoods and spent some time where it all began, along with the men who began it. Back when "Basic was hard and men were men."

We swam in the lake, got ice cream from Dari Maid, ran (or walked) the loop to Eagles View—we did it all. Well, not quite all since there was no snow on the ground, but we had an amazing time nonetheless. It was great to have a mini-reunion with some of the men and women who helped start this program we call ALERT.

We spent the week with Ron and Joyce Fuhrman, John and Janet Tanner, Josh (Unit 3) and Becky Tanner and their kids, Nate (Unit 2) and Rachelle Swanson and their kids, Joel (Unit 9) and Launa George and their kids, Justin (Unit 16) and Abigail Tanner and their kids, and Becky Helland the original registrar.

Needless to say, it was amazing to hear the crazy stories and be in the places where traditions were made and ALERT’s history was created out of nothing. It was just another reminder to me how God has been faithful in providing and protecting us all these years.

Discount on the Alumni Dive Class

We are discounting our upcoming Nitrox Dive class that starts July 31 by $400. This class is a “getaway vacation” for ALERT men. We will be staying in a beach resort in Panama City, FL, diving in some crystal springs, going on a boat dive, playing volleyball, and swimming in the ocean. You are welcome to ride with ALERT transportation from our Big Sandy campus, or fly into Panama City, FL, and meet us there. There is an online component that must be completed before the start date, and you will need to provide your size shirt, weight, and shoe size for this class. Visit the website to register.

Finally, I wanted to make sure you all know the dates for the next ALERT reunion. We have scheduled the 2025 reunion here on campus in Big Sandy for February 7-9, 2025. We'll be releasing more information and details throughout the fall as we plan the event, but make sure to mark your calendars so you don't miss it.

Forge on!
