Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | December 2023

December 11, 2023

Dear Alumni,

During these final weeks of the year, the ALERT staff and I take a couple of days to sit down and hold end of year meetings. We spend time looking back on where we have been and where we are going. All it takes is a few moments of reflection to see God's hand at work over the past year. From helping us launch our new website in April to successfully restarting our Construction 3rd Phase to bringing on new staff members, God has provided in ways that only He can. There were lots of moving pieces this last year, lots of ups and downs, and lots of uncertainty at times. But He has been faithful through it all.

As we look toward our 2024 training calendar, we want to let you know that we are increasing our class number for the Leadership & Communications class in January. If this is a class you are interested in taking, we currently have three slots left. Registration closes December 22, so if you would like to take this next L&C class, register now.

The biggest event on our calendar for 2024 is ALERT's 30th Reunion here on campus February 8-11! I can't wait to see you all there and spend time recounting all the stories, seeing old friends, and meeting new ones. One new addition to the Reunion this year are the career panels. We’re doing several panels with our alumni who will share their experiences in their field, answer questions, and give advice to guys who are looking at heading into those fields. We are planning to have panels for guys interested in careers in the military, law enforcement, EMS/medicine, business/entrepreneurship, and ministry/missions. If you are interested in speaking on one of those panels, please email Lt. Winkler and let him know your availability (swinkler@alertacademy.com).

On a more sobering note, Ethan Peltola (Unit 63) passed away on Dec 7th. If you would like information about his funeral service or contact information for his family, contact us and we will pass those on to you. Please be in prayer for his family during this time.

From Katy and myself, have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

ALERT Commanding Officer

Needs/Projects

Here are a couple of needs and projects that we are working on. If you would like to help cover the costs of any of these, you can donate online or mail a check. We have also added the option to set up recurring donations via our website. Make sure to add a note indicating what it is for on the donation form or check so that it gets applied properly.

  • Scholarship Funds - our goal is to award $100,000 in scholarships next year; all the money in the scholarship fund goes directly towards student training costs

  • Replacement of Rope Rescue/Fire/Dive Training Gear - continual upgrades to our gear to stay current with industry standards and replace worn gear

  • New Deployment Trailers/Vehicles - updates to our current fleet of vans and trailers due to wear and tear from deployments

  • Classroom/Aspen Refurbishment - continued upgrades to our student living and study spaces
