Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | April 2023

April 28, 2023

Dear Alumni,

Our spring training quarter is in full swing here at the Academy, with Basic Training wrapping up Survival Week yesterday and preparing to leave for the Endurance Hike on Monday, and the 3rd Phase quarter just past the half way point. We have sent out four different deployment teams so far this quarter to locations in Indiana, Maine, and Mississippi, and we have Construction heading to Little Rock, AR, on Monday and the Missions class trip to Mexico coming up later next month.

This month we also launched our long awaited website redesign. If you haven’t seen it yet, head over to alertacademy.com and check out the new site. We started from scratch and built a totally new website with new text and information, new photos, and most importantly, an online application for Basic Training. Our team is still fixing minor bugs on the new site, so if you see anything that looks broken or that doesn’t work right, please email Lt. Winkler (swinkler@alertacademy.com) and he’ll get it on the fix list. We’ve been working towards a new website for several years now, so it is really exciting to have it finally go live.

This past week we had the opportunity to have some alumni come back and speak to Unit 68 during Survival Week. Over the course of the week, 2Lt. Brian Cahill (Unit  16), Sgt. John Friedli (Unit 32), and RFC Caleb Reed (Unit 44) each shared a morning Bible study with the men out the Survival Week area. If you are interested in speaking to the guys in training, either in Basic Training or the Battalion, please reach out to me and we will see if we can set something up. We want to continue increasing the alumni involvement in our training, so shoot me an email if you’re interested.

Please be in prayer next week for Unit 68 and their cadre as they hike the Endurance Hike. Pray for good weather (the current weather forecast for the hike is hot and sunny during the day, and cold and clear overnight), safe travels to and from Oklahoma, and safety on the hike. As always, thank you for your prayers for us as we look to forge men.

Stand strong!

ALERT Commanding Officer

Alumni Opportunity

Josh Angel (Unit 37) is working on putting together an ALERT style program called La Forja (The Forge) for young men in Mexico, where he serves as a missionary/pastor. He is looking for help in various ways: volunteers to help staff/lead the program, partners to help support the effort in prayer, and financial backers to help offset the costs and provide scholarships for the participants. For more information, or to help with any of the above, please reach out to him via cell (608) 308-4009 or email joshdangel@gmail.com. You can also follow him on social media: TikTok (@laforja), YouTube (@laforja_), and Instagram(la.forja_).
