Greetings from the Behrs,
For those who may not have heard, as of
yesterday I have moved out of the role of Commanding Officer/Director and into
one of support staff within the organization. The timing of the transition
seems right, and I look forward to continuing to stand behind the organization,
give counsel when needed, help more in the background, and do whatever is helpful in "Forging
extraordinary men who influence their world for Christ".
It has been an honor serving in the leadership
here, and I am more than confident that those who now take the helm will not
only keep this vision in focus, but will carry on and expand the mission to be
even more impactful for His glory. Major Jesse Boulden has taken on the role of
Commanding Officer, so please be in prayer for him as he takes on these new
responsibilities and the challenges that go along with such.
It's been truly exciting watching our staff grow
and mature in their leadership skills and responsibilities as we've prepared
for this transition over the past year. They all have a heart in helping men come to maturity in
Christ.
Thank you all for the blessings, encouraging
notes, phone calls, and most importantly the prayers you have extended to Carla
and I throughout our time here at ALERT—and in particular these last two years
when God saw fit to introduce us to some uncharted waters. We can say with
confidence that it is the Lord who has shown Himself strong, not only on our
behalf, but certainly in the ministry of ALERT. All glory and praise goes to
Him, and I say that with all sincerity. My current health barometer, if you will, is good,
and I am eternally grateful for that.
Carla and I look forward to whatever role we can
continue to play in the journey of life with ALERT—and elsewhere if He so
directs us. We are reminded both of the importance of redeeming the time and of the
words Moses gave to the tribe of Asher in Deuteronomy 33:25: "as your days,
so shall your strength be." Our ultimate heart’s desire is to serve
others, and our longing is to finish strong and be a part of the Gospel that
continues to transform and conform individuals to the image of Christ.
One final note, we sent yesterday's Alumni Update with the transition announcement to our entire email list, not just to our alumni. If you are not on our Alumni Updates list and would like to keep receiving those emails, please fill out the form at this link.
Blessings to all of you, and let’s certainly continue to keep in touch!
Marv and Carla
