Dear Hot Metal Community,
In the next week, we journey with Jesus from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem with shouts of Hosanna to the mount of Golgotha where those shouts turn to demanding his crucifixion. Holy Week is the time of the liturgical calendar that holds the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. It's a story lived out in real time so that we can, year after year, feel all of the experiences in our own bodies and in our community. Here's all the opportunities for you to experience a taste of this story this year.
Palm Sunday - Sunday, April 2, *11am at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary*
We join together with the National Black Presbyterian Caucus - Pittsburgh Chapter and other congregations committed to racial reconciliation for this annual Unity service. We'll join our voices together to raise up a call for justice and hope for God's reign. Please register here: https://www.pts.edu/palm-sunday-unity-service-2023
(Though no one will be turned away if you forget!)
Holy Week Field Trip: Maxo Vanka Murals - Wednesday, April 5 at 5:30pm
We'll journey to St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale for a private tour of the stunning and meaningful murals of Croatian-American artists Maxo Vanka. We'll hear about the history of the murals, their ties to Pittsburgh and American history. Then we'll gather for dinner at Strange Roots Experimental Ales for a time of processing and fellowship. All Ages are welcome! Please sign up so we can plan: https://forms.gle/GoosaWqaQ252R9fo6
Cost is $15/person but please let Pastor Erin know if you need assistance. Payments can be made via check or cash ahead of time, or arrange with Pastor Erin or Brenda to pay via credit card.
Good Friday Worship - Friday, April 7 at 7pm
Join us in person or on Zoom for a quiet, contemplative service of grounding ourselves in the deeper meaning of the cross, and praying for a world where death truly has no more power. Use the Sunday Zoom link to join that way!
Easter Sunday with Breakfast! - Sunday, April 9 at 9:30am
Hot Metal Leadership will be providing a continental breakfast before worship, starting at 9:30am! Join your church family for nourishment and fellowship before worshipping together and celebrating the resurrection!
I hope you find these or other meaningful ways to engage in the story this year, and you find yourselves more connected and embodied in God's work.
Peace,
Pastor Erin
