Hello Hot Metallers!
What a great first week! I’ve been busy settling in here and getting to know some of the staff and leadership. We’ve jumped right into looking toward the future, most immediately thinking and praying and planning for our Christmas Eve Eve and Christmas Eve services (mark your calendars!). Thank you all who have already welcomed me, and I look forward to connecting with all of you in the near future! Feel free to reach out and offer a time you’d like to get together over a drink or a meal, or just to chat!
In worship this week, we continue in the season of Advent. We hear the story of John the Baptist, a strange character wandering around in the wilderness who proclaims that God’s reign is near. Who is this John guy? Why is he in the wilderness and not the Temple? Why is he so sure that God is near? What does he think is going to happen? What does a voice crying out have to do with peace?
We’ll ponder these questions and think about how we prepare for Jesus even in the wilderness. We’ll sing and pray and gather around the Table where we experience the nearness of God in bread and wine. If you were here last week, you know that Jesus is showing up (as always) in this new chapter of HMBFC. If you haven’t been back yet, come see how the community is the same and new and rooted and growing all at the same time!
May you find peace in this Advent,
Pastor Erin
