Hello My Dear Covid-19 Challenged Friends!
Stress, anxiety depression and a whole lot of other stuff is wreaking havoc on our minds and bodies during this pandemic but what can we do about it? It is really hard when we have no control over the government, nature, disease or the economy. All we can do is manage our own thinking about those things which will in turn change how we feel which will give us a lot more choices about what we do to cope.

In the last 30 years since I have been a counselor I realized that there were certain groups of people who were much more hesitant to get help when they were stressed or had fallen into an addiction of some sort and those are Christians and professionals.  Between the issues of confidentiality, running into clients, patients, co-workers or parishoners and the fear of having a "diagnosis" on insurance or medical records for life,  people are afraid and often full of shame and embarrassment because we think we should be smart enough to not have a handle on things.

I sobered up and got clean the first time around when I was 21, way back in 1976. It was a breeze until 1985, going through a divorce and a church that was OK with drinking wine because after all that was Jesus' first miracle. Turning water into wine. I started drinking one with the intention of having a glass of wine with dinner and drank more and more for the next 10 years.

When I first realized I had a “problem” I didn’t feel like I could tell anyone at church. After all I was a leader there and a professional counselor in the community. It was hard enough to face God and be honest about my struggle let alone the people who I knew, or at least assumed, would judge me. So I stuffed it for a long time.

Eventually I had to face the truth. My drinking had been “noticed” by one of my clients, and it could have been a really bad ending. I knew I had ADHD and also struggled with anxiety/depression that was later diagnosed as hypo-mania type II Bi-Polar disorder. I felt alone and I don’t want anyone else to feel like they have to pretend anymore so I started Faucet of HOPE Ministries in 2014 and I am here for YOU right now.
