This Month in History
Looking at history often reminds us how far we have come as a nation and who the courageous and brave people were that stood up against evil and corruption. It also gives us a chance to consider mistakes made and how not to repeat them. South African history in the month of March includes these events:
21st March 1960 - Human Rights Day
On March 21 1960, apartheid police shot and killed 69 people and wounded 180 others during a student protest in the Sharpeville Massacre. In March 2015 students at UCT launched the student movement which became known as the Rhodes Must Fall which focused on the “decolonisation” of education.
15th March 2020 Covid Lockdown in South Africa began as draconian measures were taken by the government to attempt to contain the spread of the virus.
