1. Children love stories! In most families, children will choose to snuggle up on the couch to have Mom read to them with much more enthusiasm than sitting at a desk filling in a worksheet.
2. Reading stories, biographies, poetry and living books are a wonderful way to give your children ideas for their minds to feed on. In Footprints we present information to your children in non-conflict times.
3. Discussion of the books, characters and periods in our nations history builds debating skills and helps your children form opinions that they can present to other people.
4. Footprints does not make use of worksheets to learn. While we have notebooking pages for children to practice the art of narration, the program does not require hours of mindless busy work at a desk.
5. We rely on high parental involvement. This means that you are the person that your children look to for direction and help in navigating their learning. There is no online learning in the first two packages and a limited amount in the high school programme.
6. Its affordable! Footprints costs from R900 – R7000 depending on the programme and how many extras you buy. We have a variety of packages for you to choose from.
7. You only buy ONE package for all your children to use at the given age. You will reuse the material for younger children in the home. This is frugal homeschooling at its best.
8. Footprints encourages all types of learning styles. We have enough hands-on activities for the kinaesthetic learners and plenty visual and auditory stimulation for the kiddos who learn in those ways too.
9. We believe that all of life is learning. From the moment your children get up in the morning until they go to bed they are busy taking in information. We show you how to set up healthy routines with them so that you will develop willing helpers in your home and life-long learners.
10. By studying South Africa we take a “warts-and-all” approach. We do not offer a one-sided approach to our nation’s history. At age-appropriate levels we give you the good and the bad of our past. So much of history is written with bias, one way or another. We endeavor to present you both sides and leave the discussion of right and wrong up to you.
