Message to Members:
You may know by now that we chose a candidate for president, Darrell Castle of Memphis (the one in Tennessee, not the one in Texas). Read more at http://castle2016.com, where we hope you will donate generously. Darrell chose Scott Bradley as his running mate, although our own Scott Copeland of Weatherford not only came in second in the balloting for president, but was a popular name in contention for VP! While we did not qualify for ballot access in Texas, we have every reason to expect Darrell to be qualified as a write-in candidate, and your vote for him will be far from wasted. This will measure our growing strength and the resistance to the two-party monopoly in Texas.
As most of you know, there was no state convention possible in Texas this year, for the simple reason that we had no candidates, and it would have been pointless. However, a number of members have inquired as to whether we will be having a statewide conference anyway, in order to help grow the party. It seems like a good idea to me, if there is adequate interest. This IS the year to "grow the party".
The Republican National Convention will end on July 21 in Cleveland (the one in Ohio, not the one in Texas). It is anticipated that between now and that date there will be a LOT of patriotic and conservatives Republicans looking for a new political home. The Constitution Party is THE party designed with those true conservatives in mind. Our Founder, Howard Phillips, often said that the time will come when true conservatives would realize that they have been played for suckers for many years, and that they will need a place where Principles are foremost, and where the Constitution must be upheld if the Republic is to be saved. That time has come.
This suggests to us that a statewide conference sometime in August would be in order, as a "Welcome Home" party for our new members, to get to know one another, and to start building a viable alternative to Socialist Party B in the future. A location in Central Texas will make it possible for the most people to attend without turning it into an overnight event, but whether that happens will depend entirely upon YOU communicating with me soon, and telling me you would be willing to attend, if possible. Since school starts for most districts on August 22, we have three Saturdays prior to that, and the 20th is too close. That leaves August 6 and 13. Do you have a preference? Minimal response will mean to me that there is not enough interest.
Do you want to be on the Planning Committee to help us have a better conference? Please let me know as soon as possible.
Why is it important that we build this year, when we obviously won't carry Texas?
- It measures our strength, as well the resistance to the choices available;
- It gives us a chance to run candidates in special elections coming up;
- It encourages others to consider running for office next year and in 2018, at all levels.
And that's where we need YOU! Please consider putting your name on the ballot to help us grow - recognizing that it's an uphill battle, and many of our candidates will lose, this is still the process necessary for a party to grow, and who knows? You just might win! We're not asking you to take a second mortgage on the house, or to sell one of the children, but we are asking you to either seriously consider running yourself, or help us find a few candidates in your county.
When I looked over the Texas Secretary of State's website, at the coming ballot in November, I was startled to realize that out of 150 seats for the Texas legislature, 96 of them will be uncontested! Republicans are now interested in pushing the agenda so nicely stated in their platform. They are willing to have parity with the Democrats, allowing them to hold a third of the legislature uncontested, in return for their own third to be uncontested, and reducing the battlefield to only 36% of all districts. This means if we run a candidate next time, in what has been a hitherto uncontested district, we become the second party, not the third, by just showing up!
Not only that, but we can be certain that there will be some special elections in 2017. People die, or retire unexpectedly from office all the time, and special elections must be called by the governor to fill their seats in the legislature. The good news is that ANYONE may run, and there is no obstacle to ballot access! Well... there is one. We must have a candidate. One who lives in the district. It is too late to start trying to organize a county chapter at that point - we have to do it now. Then, when there is a race in your district, you are positioned to make a run. And if not, then you have a group that can support those who do. This is a very important reason to start organizing a CP county organization in your county NOW. For a Constitutional Republic, under God, once again,
