Too often in our society, crying is portrayed as a weakness - when biologically, it’s an essential function of our body.


Another reaction society has endorsed is that "crying is seeking pity" and therefore, one's natural reaction is to avoid pity, and therefore to suppress crying. 


Additionally we’ve all heard the societal classics; “boys don’t cry” â€śmen don’t cry” â€śbig girls don’t cry” â€śwomen are over-sensitive”.


When, the key to a successful cry (and therefore, a successful detox) - is ~ letting yourself cry. 


Once again this might seem counter-intuitive (as it’s the opposite of what we have be conditioned to do) but one the best ways to detox your body is to detox your emotional body.


LET

YOURSELF

CRY. 

And cry, and cry, and cry. 

Cry until your tear ducts are empty. 


I know mid-cry this can seem worse because it feels like you might get stuck crying forever... in an eternity of tears... you may fear you’ll never stop. 

You will stop (in deep sorrow - stopping might be falling asleep).

Let the tears flow until all the tears are out. 



This happened to me this morning. 

My mind became overwhelmed by emotions that seemed beyond my control and that triggered an emotional reminder from a challenging time in my past - that which I do not want to relive. 


My initial reaction - push it away - suppress - go to my task list. 

I could feel stress rising in my body, my temples on my forehead began to throb. 

I took a deep breath. 

I left my desk.

I lay down. 

I took so more deep breaths and then, without knowing it was coming I started to cry. 

I cried and I cried. 

I let myself ride the emotional rollercoaster

And when I tried to stop, I let myself cry some more. 

I cried until I was finished. 

And I lay there feeling soothed by myself. 


🤩. Suddenly new solutions started to breeze through my mind. 


🤩. Suddenly some windows appeared where there were only locked gates before. 



In fact, researchers have found that crying activates the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). The PNS helps your body rest and digest.

Now I feel clearer and lighter.
