According to the APA Dictionary of Psychology, burnout is defined as “physical, emotional or mental exhaustion, accompanied by decreased motivation, lowered performance and negative attitudes towards oneself and others.”
I had no idea how to rest, regulate emotions and it took me years of going to all the vigorous flow classes to finally try a "restorative yoga" class.
"That's too slow for me" I used to think, UNTIL my first class. After just one class, I was hooked!
I was astonished at how great I felt after less than hour.
My body felt relaxed and lubricated (even though I took "no action"), my mind was centred and relaxed and I felt wonderful peace and positivity about my life.
Imagine, without any significant changes to my life, diet, relationships - my entire outlook and energy about my life transformed - only from breathing and holding specific positions. I wanted to feel this way as much as possible.
If you’re used to going 100 miles an hour, and then suddenly take your foot off the accelerator, you’re now still doing 75. This slower speed might make you even more anxious because you may feel that 75 is not good enough because you’re so used to going at 100 miles an hour.
In order to adjust to a new pace AND feel powerful and productive, our nervous systems needs calming tools - consistently and repeatedly - to adjust to new pace.
The best way I know to make the changes that reduce and prevent burnout, is to prioritise S P A C E and A NEW PACE for you to breathe, stretch, strengthen and deeply connect with yourself.
All of my Yoga and Herbalism teachers coincidently operate on the ayurvedic principles of treating the "whole person + their lifestyle" and "prevention is better than cure".
With "prevention is better than cure" at top of mind, along with restoring balancing through yang (power) and yin (peace)...
🤩 I am VERY EXCITED to invite you to create new weekly S P A C E and balance for yourself with - Yang Yin Yoga - my online class schedule for Spring/Summer.
