My prayers are with all those affected by this earthquake in Morocco that took place on Sept 9th at 11:11 pm, centered in the villages of the high Atlas mountains in the greater area of Marrakech.

Morocco holds a special place in my heart, as I lived there for several years first as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English, and later working in private business. The Moroccan people are warm, welcoming and especially connected to Americans.

In fact, Morocco was the first nation to recognize the newly-created United States of America by signing an official treaty of peace and friendship in 1786. 

Thus, the Moroccan-American relationship is the longest one in our country's history.

Sadly, the mainstream media merry-go-round appears to be manipulating the Morocco earthquake story, promoting images that in some cases just don't add up.
